The Country House Collection 32866 Primitive Berry Vine Check Valance, 14-inch

In October 1985, Norma and Mike Delano opened The Country House in Snow Hill, Maryland. Norma was a second-grade teacher, and Mike was a former agricultural fertilizer salesman. In 1972, Norma quit teaching to be a mom to their daughters, Christy and Jenny. As the girls grew older, Norma focused more on painting and sewing crafts, and she and Mike participated in craft shows each year.

The idea of opening a store to showcase their handmade products and decorating items not readily available in the area led the Delanos to open The Country House in Snow Hill. Due to the store's overwhelming success, they moved to a larger location in Salisbury, MD, and within a year, they doubled the space to 5,000 square feet. After three more years, they purchased their current 48,000-square-foot building, which had originally been a shirt factory in the 1930s and required significant repairs. The Delano family, including grandparents and several carpenter friends, worked hard to prepare the building for their store.

In the early 2000s, The Country House Collection had the opportunity to develop a line of fabric curtains and linens, which were manufactured in India. Christy and Jenny collaborated with Norma and Mike to build this collection, which now includes a wide selection of metal pieces and other household goods.
