In October 1985, Mike and Norma Delano opened The Country House in Snow Hill, Maryland. Mike had previously worked as an agricultural fertilizer salesman, while Norma was a second-grade teacher. In 1972, Norma quit teaching to become a stay-at-home mom to their daughters, Christy and Jenny. As the girls grew older, Norma became more involved in painting and sewing crafts, which she and Mike would sell at craft shows each year.

The idea of opening a store to showcase their handmade products and decorative items not readily available in the local area led to the establishment of The Country House in Snow Hill. Due to the overwhelming response at the original location, they soon moved to a larger space in Salisbury, Maryland, doubling the store's size to 5,000 square feet within a year.

After three years, the Delanos purchased their current location, a 48,000-square-foot building that had been constructed in the 1930s as a shirt factory. The building required significant renovation, which the family, including grandparents and several carpenter friends, undertook to prepare it for use as a retail store.

In the early 2000s, The Country House Collection had the opportunity to develop a line of fabric curtains and linens, which were manufactured in India. Christy and Jenny worked alongside Norma and Mike to build this collection, which now includes a wide selection of metal pieces and other household goods.

The fabric used in the Country House Collection's products is woven with a combination of sage, cream, and red to create a plaid design, ensuring a stylish and durable product that is suitable for use in bathrooms and various other areas of the home.
