In October 1985, Norma and Mike Delano opened The Country House in Snow Hill, Maryland. Norma, a former second-grade teacher, and Mike, a former agricultural fertilizer salesman, had long shared a passion for crafting and decorative items. As their daughters, Christy and Jenny, grew older, Norma's focus shifted from teaching to creating a variety of handmade products and decorative items.

Alongside their craft show participation, the Delanos recognized an opportunity to showcase their creations and offer unique decorative items not readily available in the local area. This vision led them to open The Country House in Snow Hill, which quickly gained a loyal customer base. Encouraged by the store's success, the Delanos moved to a larger space in Salisbury, Maryland, and within a year, they had doubled the size of their operation to 5,000 square feet.

Determined to continue expanding, the Delanos purchased a 48,000-square-foot building, originally constructed in the 1930s as a shirt factory, in their current location. The family, including grandparents and several carpenter friends, worked diligently to renovate and prepare the space for their growing business.

In the early 2000s, The Country House Collection expanded its offerings, venturing into the development of fabric curtains and linens, which were manufactured in India. Christy and Jenny collaborated with Norma and Mike to build this new collection, which now includes a broad selection of metal pieces and other household goods.
